A magical steam train will be returning to a platform near Surrey this Christmas to offer families a unique and enchanting experience. Steam Illuminations will descend on the Watercress Line in Alton in November for special trips over the festive season.

Located just over the border in Hampshire, near Farnham, members of the public can buy tickets to ride on the enchanting train or simply watch it chug through the countryside. Running on selected dates until January 2023, the classic train will be covered in thousands of dazzling LED lights.

Passengers are given a nifty wristband to wear onboard to give them an exclusive experience of being part of the colourful light show. Traditional Christmas and popular music will play alongside the lights and entertainment will be provided by the Voiceover Man, as heard on Britain’s Got Talent.

The train journey will take around one hour and 45 minutes and children under two years old go free as they will not be allocated a seat. Guests can bring their own food or they can order a Treat Box when they book their ticket.

Items include traditional lemonade or elderflower drink, crisps and crackers to share, cake bars, sweet treats, plus additional festive items. West Country Buffet will also be open at Alresford station for takeaway hot and cold drinks and food, including a children's menu, from 3pm to 9pm. The kiosk at Alton will be open for takeaway light refreshments, too.

There will be opportunities to take photos of the iconic locomotive at the start, in the middle and at the end of the trip. Trains depart from either Alresford or Alton and complete a round trip, back to the starting station. There is parking available at both stations.

Tickets are available to purchase now. Visit the website to book tickets online.
